We are looking for a highly organised, regulatory-focused Compliance Officer to manage our comprehensive compliance framework in Sabah. The ideal candidate will bridge the gap between corporate sustainability targets, quality standards, and strict local, state, and federal governmental regulations.
Key Requirements & Qualifications
- Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Management, Maritime Studies, Occupational Safety and Health, Legal Studies, Business Administration, or a related discipline.
- Experience: Minimum of 2 years of working experience in corporate regulatory compliance, internal auditing, or governance.
- Technical Frameworks: Proven familiarity with ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance), CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility), EIA (Environmental Impact Assessments), and MTRA (Marine Traffic Risk Assessment protocols for maritime logistics/jetty operations).
- Quality Standards: Deep knowledge and practical audit/maintenance experience in ISO 9001 (Quality), ISO 14001 (Environmental), and ISO 45001 (Occupational Health & Safety).
- Jurisdiction Knowledge: Deep operational understanding of both Sabah State Legislation (e.g., Environment Protection Department Sabah, Sabah Ports Authority, Sabah Labour Ordinance) and Federal Government requirements (e.g., Federal Department of Environment / DOE, Marine Department Malaysia).
- Residency Priority: Sabahan candidates will be given priority.
Core Responsibilities
- Oversee and implement corporate ESG and CSR frameworks to meet stakeholder expectations.
- Monitor compliance with EIA conditions of approval and manage environmental monitoring parameters.
- Review, manage, and enforce mitigation measures arising from the Marine Traffic Risk Assessment (MTRA) for safe vessel loading, shipping, and coastal logistics.
- Maintain, audit, and update corporate ISO 9001, 14001, and 45001 management systems to ensure continuous certification.
- Act as the primary liaison with regulatory authorities, including Sabah state bodies and Federal Government departments.
- Conduct internal compliance reviews, flag operational risks, and draft official compliance documentation or reports.
